A year in photos: the first half

After spending nearly six months shooting Londontown last year, this year I’ve barely picked up my camera. Pretty much all photos snapped in 2015 were taken with my iPhone. I’m not too bothered by this because I know my creativity ebbs and flows between my two loves (photography and writing) but it does underline how home-based I’ve been this year. The older I get the less I want to run around. Looking through my photos for these posts I notice my favourites are from specific days out with my family or friends — that B&W selfie below is one of probably only three or four I shot this year. I’m just less interested in the outside — I know what I look like. I accept the good and the “bad” and I’d really rather contemplate my inside reflection. That’s so much more interesting to me these days…

We’re coming for you 2016!

Here it is! The Unravelling the Year Ahead workbook, calendar + a free course to help you find your word for 2016! | SusannahConway.com

For the seventh (!!) year running it’s my very great pleasure to share the Unravelling the Year Ahead workbook and calendar with you. Have I mentioned how much I love this tradition of ours? This year I’ve been tickled to get so many emails asking if I was doing the workbook for 2016 — I LOVE that you guys love it as much as I do! So without any further ado, here it is:

This year I’ve added a couple of new pages and updated some others, but I haven’t changed too much. For me, part of the fun is being able to look back over last year’s responses to see what did or didn’t come to pass. While I’m not much of a planner this kind of review seems to open me up to possibility. Reflecting on the year that’s passing is as important as plotting out steps for the next 12 months. I’m noticing that this year I’d quite like a workbook for my business as well, so I’ll be demo-ing that in my journal — if it’s helpful I’ll make an additional biz workbook next year…

If you haven’t picked a word for 2016 yet I’ve updated this slice of fried gold for you:

New year’s resolutions have never worked for me — in fact, I don’t know if they’ve ever really worked for anyone. They always sound like a list of rules that I know I will break. I’m not great with structure and schedules so it makes sense a list of rules resolutions would make me feel hemmed in. I need more s p a c e. I want to be inspired not instructed.

Choosing a word as a guiding light for the new year works for me because it feels so much more expansive. A word can be embraced as a mantra, a meditation, a reminder, a promise. A word can be interpreted in different ways. A word can’t be “broken” — it feels gentler somehow.

In the seven years I’ve been choosing a word for the year, my life has certainly changed for the better. Some of my previous words proved to be wildly empowering — BRAVE, EXPAND and OPEN were all dynamically useful words that helped me create change in my life. Other words have been less helpful: COMPASSION, for example, was a bit of a cop-out in 2011. This year’s word was NOURISH and it’s been the most supportive and nourishing — pun intended — word I’ve chosen so far. I’m excited to see how my word for 2016 tops that!

The more I do this practice the more I understand why it’s such a valuable thing to do each year. I also know that sometimes we need a hand uncovering our just-right word, so I created Find Your Word to help you find YOUR word for 2016.

Head over to this page to get started — it’s completely free, of course!

ENJOY! xo
