The year in photos

It’s been a full year. A heavy year filled with the stuff of life that can’t be avoided. It’s been a year of feeling all the feelings, over and over, and I’ve reached the end of it completely emptied. There has been joy and there has been grief. I almost didn’t put this post together as I’m so ready to get on with 2017, but I treasure all the other round-ups and traditions are important, aren’t they. My iPhone has continued to be my most used camera and I haven’t shot a single frame of film this year, which only saddens me a little. It’s been more important to be fully present to every day, and the photos and film clips I’ve captured have been enough. Photography will forever be like meditation for me and it honestly doesn’t matter what camera I use — all that matters is that my eyes are open.

2016 has been quite a year, that’s for sure. I am more than ready for 2017. I am hoping to start it with a fresh heart, leaving the heartache of 2016 behind.

    Lovely photos.

    O. M. G. that Daisy, Oliver and I were part of your year– ahh, the fresh beginnings when all hope is new — makes me inordinately happy! With good luck– we can see each other again for reals in 2017. Preferably in France . . :) LOVE LOVE LOVE you my sweetest friend.

Awesome pics Susannah. Love the one with the foxes!

Just wondering – were any of these taken with instant film cameras?
If so, which ones? I’m keen to know because the quality of the pics are exceptional.

I’ve found that the Lomography LC-A+ lets me take pictures like your one of the pool; where the glare of the sun is aesthetic rather than overpowering.

Keep up the great work :)

I always enjoy your Year in Photos. 2016 has been quite a full year, I feel ready to build on some of the things I’ve done this year in 2017! :)
