It’s been snowing and I’m loving it, mainly because the snow reflects the little light we have making it so much easier to endure these grey winter days.
In other news, my soul sister Denise* shared a question on her blog today that piqued my imagination: if you could play a role/character in a movie film, who would it be and why?
You’ll have to head over to her post to see who Denise chose. My immediate thought was Ripley in the Alien films (played by Sigourney Weaver) as she was so strong and resourceful and kick ass! Exactly how I want to feel right now. Had you asked me last year my answer might have been different, but right now Ripley is where I want to be.

I was thinking about The Bride, in Kill Bill, or the character played by Mélanie Laurent in Inglorious Bastards (yes, I love Tarantino)…it could also be Professor McGonagal in the HP movies, or Julie Delpy’s character in Before Sunset…can’t decide :)
Frances in Under the Tuscan Sun. She follows a dream on a whim and creates a beautiful, fulfilling, and adventurous life for herself. She finds love and doesn’t give up on making her new life work.
I would love to have her courage and determination right about now.
I would like to play be Renee Russo’s Catherine Banning opposite Pierce Brosnan…
Acting in a movie opposite Pierce Brosnan would be enough for me, but Renee’s character is a smart, beautiful, sexy women in a man’s world and she doesn’t always play by the rules. I would love to be all that!

I watched The Only One with Zac Efron last night and I would like to be the leading lady in that and be rescued from my life and a little romance :).
Thinking about this, I come up with the same answer I had when I was 8: Sarah from Labyrinth. It’s dancing with David Bowie in tights. Cannot resist.
I would enjoy playing Nina from Black Swan. The melodrama, the dancing, and the Rodarte costumes are such guilty pleasures for me.
I also would say Frances in Under the Tuscan Sun. follow my dreams and hopes and pave a path that is mine with unending amount of courage and determination and strength.

Went and stood in front of my DVD collection, and the one that spoke to me was Brad Pitt’s character in Ocean’s Eleven. Which, is weird him being a male and all.
He’s confident, unfazed, funny. And gets to eat throughout the whole movie which makes food look fun to me.
Second choice: Sandra Bullock’s character in Practical Magic.
Earthy, and funky, and ultimately powerful.
The first thing that come to mind is Elizabeth Gilbert (Julia Roberts) in Eat, Pray, Love…when I first read the book I thought – OMG I could have written this and then with the movie came out there were parts in there that just moved me so much…I’m in the middle of my ‘journey’ trying to ‘find’ myself and plan to travel to Bali and India this year to help with the process (not because Liz did it, but because I have connections there)…BUT, I also like Frances in Under the Tuscan Sun – taking a bit risk and going for it! AND Vianne from Chocolat because she is ‘different’ than the norm and not afraid to be who she is!
I just watched Chocolat recently and I love Viane- magical, independent and fierce. A force to be reckoned with!
I have been putting much thought into this and find it interesting that Frances(under tuscan sky)and Elizabeth (eat pray love) are popular picks. What is it that happens in our mid ages(late 40s) that make us dream of new paths and self discovery so much. Is it because we spent so much time self sacrifice with kids and husbands that we are tired and need to take care and explore again for ourselves? What do you think Susannah? Anyone?
I have to agree with all of you “Vianne” lovers out there. She is strong, sexy, magical and independent. I would love to be like that!

You already are Ripley! I would be Natalie Portman’s role from Mr. Magoriums Wonder Emporium. When she begins to believe in herself she finds her own magic that makes the toystore come to life.
Kahu Paikea, the main character in Whale Rider. I can watch this film over and over again. I cry every time. I can so relate to how unseen, unheard and misunderstood she feels, and then to how she finally takes her place, in life and in their tribe.

So I have to tell you this. About a year or so ago, I was reading Artiful Blogging. I saw the work of Kim Klassen and have been following her beautiful sentiments and photography. I even signed up for her Beyond class. I read each post and intend to do the work, but life and passing has taken more time than usual. However, her blog led me to you. I bought your book, this i know, which I read cover to cover and so enjoyed your photography. I bought the polaroid book too. I have so much I want to do. I’m like a race horse just itching to get out of the gate. (And did I mention I’m 59 years young?) Anyway, your last post sent me to Denise’s blog. There in the About section, the last picture is by Tara Whitney. She and my son-in-law have done photo shots together. I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting her yet, but I will….Back to your book. Just as my mother-in-law died, two amazing things happened during all the chaos. I applied for a grant to teach writing to adults who have had loved ones die. My grant was accepted, and I started my work this month and will be doing it for this year. The second thing is that I have met and joined with a group of women writers who are so different and at the same time nurturing. I’ve been writing for decades, but for the first time, it’s consistently on my mind and in my fingers. One can only imagine where this will all lead, especially when you think about all the changes of the past year. How small a world is it anyway? It’s so wonderful to find like minded people (women especially) like you, Kim, Denise, my Writers Ignited group who understand the desire to create, live fully, and be more than the sum of doing. I have many friends, but most just look at me and seem to say, “Who are you?” At my age I won’t wait anymore for opportunities to come my way. I’m making them happen. So from a blogging magazine to Kim to you to Denise to Tara…we are all in this adventure together. I love knowing I have soul mates around the world. Thank you for sharing.
