Let’s make 2013 the best year ever!

The title of this post is quite possibly the most over-the-top hyperbolic headline this blog has ever seen, but it’s exactly what I’m feeling right now. I’ve just come back from a weekend retreat with my girls, and I’m tired and in need of a good night’s sleep in my own bed. But as tends happens when you spend time with friends who’ve seen you through good times and a lot of bad, I’ve returned feeling seen and understood. I’ve returned feeling fortified, holding in my heart a clearer idea of what I want and how I can open my self to it.

2012 has been a big year for me, work-wise, and now we’re in December I’m reflecting on what I’d like to bring into my world in 2013. And I can tell you now — there’s a lot I want to bring in. Oh yes, a LOT. Whether I can do it remains to be seen, but what I love most about a new year is the delicious POSSIBILITY of it. The blank slate and the clean page.

The promise of the NEW.

So, just like I did last year, I’ve put together a workbook to help me say goodbye to this year and prepare for the new one. The workbook’s been updated and expanded and I’ve also created a month-by-month planner so I can really plot out the next 12 months.

I got so many emails last year thanking me for the workbook, it was crazy! So it’s my very great pleasure to give you this gift today:

>> Click here to download the 2013 monthly planner <<

I really hope you’ll take a bit of time this month to print out the workbook and work your way through it. I’ve been reading back what I wrote last year and it’s so illuminating to see where I was in my head and heart and what I hoped to call in — and what came and what didn’t. There were quite a few surprises in 2012 (living in London? Didn’t see that coming this time last year) so I’m excited to see what 2013 brings. We can plot our path to a certain extent but it’s also fun to leave space for the stuff we can’t possibly imagine right now.

I don’t make resolutions but I do choose a word to guide my course through the year (more on that soon), so there’s space for that in the workbook, too. Writing down your intentions is incredibly powerful, so find an hour to yourself, roll up your metaphorical sleeves and dig in…

LET’S DO THIS!

Lovely. I’ve just been reading through my Unravelling workbook from last year and Oh MY! Lots of things came true. Lots of things didn’t but didn’t need to and then at the bottom in tiny letters I wrote:-

“Maybe start looking for a premises to open my own studio”

Planning permission permitting (please, gods and goddesses, please!) I open in February.

    Did. Not. See. That. Coming.

thank you for this. it couldn’t have come at a better time. i lost my job yesterday. i feel a bit lost, but it also feels like a blessing in disguise. i hated my day job; and it took me away from pursuing the things i love. this arrived in my inbox this morning, and i am thrilled for 2013 to start. i was already planning on doing ‘exploring the senses’ for a second time, and now i have this. i’m scared as hell, but boy am i inspired. thank you once again, lovely lady! xo

  21. Angela

Susannah, I love the workbook, thank you. It’s the first year I have seen it. I have only just skimmed through the file online, but I have my word for 2013 :-)

All the best for the rest of 2012 and 2013.

Each year on New Year’s eve I hunker down with some Brie, crackers, caviar and wine. Play my favorite music and contemplate the year ahead. I too pick a word or mantra that I can practice throughout the year. It’s surprising how one word or phrase can change one’s life.
Thank you for the workbook. Now I can add it to my list of New Year eve staples. And thank you, for you, your dedication to being a friend to all of us.

  24. Micala Duvoux

Hi, Susannah, I’m completely new to your blog, and already in love with your writing! Thankyou for so generously sharing your 2013 workbook and calendar with us — 2012 has been a lovely but extremely challenging year for me, and I can’t wait to visualize my 2013 into being, with your help. =)

Thanks for this, Susannah – look forward to filling it in soon. Lesson from last year’s workbook – be more specific. One goal – to get to New York. The reality – got there for two days (at the start of a trip) but spent the whole time jet-lagged! Longer trip in the works for 2013!!

  32. susannah

They should work, hon — email me and i can send them to you x

  33. Tara@Aquamarine

God I am so excited about this! I know it’s geeky and I don’t care. I was rereading my Unravelling the Year writings from last year and remembering how much I loved doing it, as well as having it to look back on. As of this year it’s now my personal ritual; I’ll do it a day or two before the end of the year, light a candle, I suspect there may be wine, and just write to my heart’s content. Thank you for making this; I know there is more than one out there but yours is my fave. And the monthly planner as well – it’s almost too much excitement to bear! ;)

  34. Shandi

Thanks, Susannah. I’ve been looking forward to this since November!

    2012 was a disappointment for me. I’m hoping that there’s a 180 degree shift in 2013.

  35. susannah

you are adorable! Thank you, Tara xx

  36. susannah

It’s coming, love! big hugs xx

Thank you Susannah -I am looking forward to spending some “me time” before the new year & going through the workbook & pondering my goals, dreams, hopes & aspirations for this new shiny year – 2012 has been fantastic for me lots of growth & change and all good !

Can I also say what gorgeously designed pieces both the calendar & workbook both are ! How I love very good graphic design – makes the world of difference – so thanks for that too !

  38. Jamey

Thank you for this! I’m already feeling super-excited about 2013. And we’ve still got a few potentially awesome and game-changing weeks of 2012 left!

I keep hoping that I’ll bump into you in town now that you’re a Londoner again, but when/if I do, I’ll probably be too shy to say hello. :-)

  39. Vinita

Thank you so much! So generous!!!

Ohmygosh I can’t wait! Thanks again for putting these worksheets together. I’m in the midst of a huge transition in my life…on the brink of fear and flying! I’ve been fluttering my wings like mad…I’m ready!! 2013 or bust! :)

  42. Briana Morrison

Though my intentions were good, I didn’t follow through with this last year. This year, however, I’ve already got it printed and am excited to sit down with it tonight. I feel like I’ve got so much to work out for 2013. Thank you for putting this together for us. :-)

  43. valeri blossom

i printed this year’s mid-year and didn’t do it. so overwhelmed with overwhelming things but it was amazing to just glance through what i’ve been writing here, there, and everwhere to see bits of the truth and the dreams come through all the noise. i’m ready. 2013 IS going to be the best year ever – days after finally writing down that i wanted to illustrate children’s books i got a serious offer from a friend and a few days later another offer from a writer that i admire, who has more recently commissioned me to do the cover of her memoir. so this year is ending on a good note that i’m ready to use to propel next year as the year of BIG action behind the passion. printing the workbook now so i can spend a quiet day at the end of the month with my blanket, my coffee, colorful pens and set some goals! thank you, susannah!

  44. Anne Jutras

Thank you so much Susannah. Can’t wait to take some time for myself and write my intention with this workbook.

Thanks Susannah for this workbook. I’ll definitely be doing this in the coming weeks. I did Mondo Beyondo January 2011 and found my dream list a few months ago – it was amazing to see how many dreams had come true. I’m a true believer in the power of the written word! Thanks again x

  53. MarieG

This is such a wonderful idea and can really help lay out the year ahead, instead of just stating resolutions.

Fantastic! Thank you! I wasn’t around for last year’s, but can’t wait to dig into this one. I’m doing a similar exercise with my writer’s group. I’ve found recapping and then setting intentions for the New Year to be so valuable in the past.

Thank you so much–words cannot express how thankful I am for this gift. This is the first year I have actually sat down to do some planning and today is day one of that process. hi susannah- your blog has been ever inspiring and i can’t even say how much i’m loving the unravelling workbook. i’ve had so much fun filling everything out and it’s really brought so much focus. i even printed one out for my husband. something i added on the backs of the 2013 calendar squares in the workbook, were squares for 2012. filling in what actually happened each month helped me see how much i’ve accomplished and just why i chose my word of “bliss” for 2013. thank you for all of the inspiration! xoxo juliette

  75. Sabine

Thank you so much for this amazing workbook. Worked with it, loved it. Your inspiring quote hangs now in front of me above my workdesk to remind me everyday, that everything is possible in 2013. :) My word for 2013 will be “simple” and I’m really excited about it. Thank you, Susannah. You’re such an inspiration!

    Dear Susannah,

your 2013 e-book is such a delight and so much better, fuller and sensual than the planning exercise I did this morning… duh! Thank you for your generosity and this wonderful gift. Just shared it with friends on FB. Have a wonderful Christmas, happy potatoe peeling with nephew and a smashing start into the new year. My word(s) for 2013 are 2 words: Inspired Action!

    Love,

  81. Lavonne

My word for 2013 is PERSEVERE.

I loved this last year and am so excited to see it back again. Making and reflecting on new year resolutions can be so stressful, there can be a real sense of failure but your workbook is so positive despite being so thorough. It helps me really open up to thinking and feeling deeply about what i want and what i can do to achieve that.

Thank you for this wonderful New Years’ gift! I am anxious to complete the process and not just dream about the changes in my life this year, but to make them happen.
Most years I do really well at planning, but don’t implement the changes to make my dreams happen.
This year IS going to be different.
Thank you for your help in making it happen.
    God bless you.

Susannah, wow. What a lovely gift to your readers. I cannot wait to begin working my way through the workbook. I have determined to this year approach life with more intentionality and contemplation. My 2012 year was full of surprises and many fantastic things – an international move, many musical opportunities, new friends, so much learned – and I want to continue that through this year.
All the best to you and thanks again.
