In my head I keep saying next year. Next year I’m doing this, next year I’m doing that. But it’s THIS year. This is the year of travel and connection (and book tours and dating). Three days in and I’m moving slowly, making juices and trying to get early nights (only to toss and turn and have bad dreams — must be clearing stuff outta my head.) This morning my new (old and bought for a song) bookshelves were delivered, so I’ve been clearing out books and rearranging what’s left. I’m starting to feel the urge to spring clean, aren’t you? Time to take the decorations down and make space for all the new that’s coming. Yes.
One slice of new this year will be my trip to North Carolina in October. I’m teaching a live one-day version of Photo meditations at Squam by the Sea and I’m so looking forward to being by the ocean, nestled into the community that Elizabeth brings together. Have you met Elizabeth? She’s one of those truly soulful women who shines so brightly you can’t help but be drawn to her. This is the fifth year she’s run her brilliant Squam Art Workshops and I’m so proud to be a small part of the fun. Teaching in New Hampshire in 2010 was a wonderful experience and I have no doubt NC will be just as good — do join us if you can!
To celebrate the launch of the new SAW site Elizabeth has very generously offered a sweet lil giveaway to you guys. The site has a new shop page where they’ll be offering one exclusive item for sale each month — for January it’s these adorable porcelain cups from Gleena. Up for grabs is a “m is for magic” cup — so cute, right? :) If you’d like to win this cup simply leave a comment on this post telling me one magical thing about YOU. In case you need some inspiration, I’ll start…
One magical thing about me is this: I always manage to make people laugh, usually by saying something silly… or naughty :)

‘M’ is also for megg!! Or Magic Megg as someone we know occasionally calls me.
I am magic because I can see the truth at the middle of something – and sometimes someONE.
xoox
It will have to be the gift of forgeting. It means making mistakes again and again, but it offers a clean slate again and again. Happy New Year to you, and may your most cherished dreams come live with you.
One magical thing about me is that I can always make people see a bright side. It might be small thing, but there’s always something positive in every situation :).

Suzie
So love those little cups! One magical thing about me is my enjoyment of giving to others.
I too have been having crazy dreams and nightmares! Like your idea about your head clearing out making room for the new :)
I love the magic in my intentions. When I declare something, determination and the universe get together to make it happen.
I am empathic…I have a gift for reading folks emotions..what is going on in their heads..not mind reading..just a clear sense of what they are feeling. Hugs and what fun!! Sarah :)
I have magical elastic capabilities; every time the world throws me lemons, I manage to bounce back! I’ve been told I’m a survivor, but really I’m elastic ;)
Thank you for your beautiful inspirational blog!
The magic about me is that I am supporter of people undertaking ventures and following their ideas. You never would hear me say that anything is a stupid idea. I am a supporter, that’s my magic.
M is for magic….
and for Melanie!
One thing magical about me:
My ability to find (or create) the magical in the ordinary, whether a simple meal, small gathering, walk in the woods, or road trip.
Very cool! Someone just tweeted about this giveaway – glad I stopped by. Cute blog!
Hmm one thing magical about me…I think I do a pretty good job of always making people feel welcome and important :)
One way I’m magical is by being open to whatever needs to happen and embracing it.
Their work is gorgeous! And so is your site!!! One magical thing about me is that even though I can only see out of one eye, I’m an illustrator and a mean slingshot marksman! Just don’t ask me to parallel park your car. :)
One magical thing about me is my love for my nieces, and Summer, aged 4, calls me Auntie Moon :)
Magic about me: lately making many new friends every time I reach out to do something new. Expanding my world one new experience and many new friends at a time. :)
One magical thing about me is that I can make people feel at home with ease.
The cups are lovely and deserve to be filled with a wonderful Earl Gray tea. I can only imagine how my lips would feel against the rim. I am magical because even when my life is going at its worst, I can, with a smile on my face) say things that will make others feel happy and at the same time raise my own level of happiness.
Something magical about me? Where do I even BEGIN?
I exist. That is magical.
One magical thing about me is I have the patience of a saint and will tackle whatever comes my way :)
yes, i can imagine that’s one of the magical things about you :) and i also feel the need to spring clean. it’s a bit overwhelming though, i’m not sure where to begin :/. i’m not sure this is even open for people living far, far away, but i liked the question so i’m just gonna answer anyway ;). one magical thing about me is that i can bring out the good, brilliance, cleverness, charm or thoughtfulness in almost anyone :).
Yes, I’m with you on the decluttering and organising. It has been work in progress for some time and I am finally feeling on the downward slope. Finally!!
One magical thing about me is embracing change and trusting that everything will work out for the best. This was put to the test last year and I feel worn out but a sense of achievement from the experience.
And yes, the cups are lovely. I hope 2012 is magical for you Susannah.
I actually AM magical. It’s a Carrie-ism, ya know. I can’t explain it but magical things just… well, happen to me, around me, at me. I can’t stop it & I never would. It’s a pretty cool gift. :)
One magical thing about me: I can usually find a crumb of humor in ANYTHING. Even the morose. Gift or curse? nay, MAgiC ;-)
Peace~
Dawn
I am so ready to clear stuff out! Yes.
One magical thing about me is I have the power to calm people, make them feel peaceful and safe and relaxed. For example, people come to my office at work all the time to just sit, because it makes them feel so much better, (oh, and there is free chocolate).
Yes! I am so happy that I posted next to you.
Waiting for the magic to happen…
:)
I never win, and I would have ordered obe, but they don’t ship to Germany … so here goes :-): I know how the people around me feel. Like, really know. As if it was me feeling. The magic is that I can make anyone happy because of it.
I am magical because with the sparkle in my eye, flash of a grin, and a few kind words, I help people gain self-awareness, empowerment, and belief in themselves.
One magical thing about me is my quick wit – I’m proud of it, too! Thanks for the giveaways, love!

One magical thing about me is my smile. It always brightens someone’s day.
No matter what became of yesterday, today I awaken and continue to believe.
[*BURST* out LOL!!] See!? How many particpants’ comments get commented on?! What can I say [Smiling big time!!], but Great Luck to you, Jill… BELIEVE!! [Still smiling with a little giggle…]
My magical thing is my handwriting. Everyone loves it (apparently big & messy is the new grey) and i love my stationery fetish. Paperchase FTW! X
You should be!! lol [Still laughing from other comment…]
Ohhhh!!! Delish!
One magical thing about me is that I believe – I believe it can happen! ;-) xo
I love this giveaway! One magical thing about me is my ability to forgive. I have a very forgiving nature (sometimes to my advantage, sometimes not), but I feel that life is more enjoyable if you just let go of things (or other people’s things) that you can’t control.
I’m beginning to learn that it is a lot harder to spring clean and de-clutter when you live with someone. I do my best though and it feels so good to make a little space in my life and home.
Those cups are adorable! (btw)
A magical thing about me is my natural ability to tame stray cats and earn their trust. It sounds silly but as a little girl this ability brought a lot of joy into my life. It still does. :-)
What a beautiful cup! One magical thing about me is my boundless imagination, which often leaves me laughing at myself! Just the other morning, in bed, I told my husband I was a hedgehog. I made up a little song and laughed until I couldn’t breathe– play is magical to me.
one magical thing about me is that i always (accidentally) have glitter on somehow.

Wishing you a sparkly new year :)
LOL!!!! :)
My hair, which goes every which way but right is magical because it forces me to no be like everyone else. It reminds me to embrace myself – flaws and all!
Thanks for running this giveaway!
Magic eh….right now I am feeling magical because I am feeding my 3 month old. It really is magic that a woman’s body is made to do this. Then, sprinkle on the extra fairy dust that magically allows this to happen while I type simultaneously. Well, call me a wizard.
I don’t need to win this, and right now I can’t think of anything magical about me at all!
I’ve just ordered Q is for Quiet for myself (to remind me that this is something I need in my life) and A is for Art as a gift to one of our participants at NZCR.
So want to go to another Squam. Not sure when tho…
A magic thing about me is my presence.
Spring cleaning has hit me here as well – cleaning, clearing & donating.
One magical thing about me is my ability to listen & let people talk out their struggles. It’s not telling them what to do but offering helpful words & letting them shift their perspective to find it for themselves.
Wow….fabulous give away! I love, love those cups!
Ok, so one magical thing about me is that people seem to trust me with their deepest, darkest thoughts. One look at me and WHAM, they are spilling the beans.

Very cute mugs. I’m a shaman – I can magically transform karmic mud into diamonds of grace. Ta Da!!!
Oh magic! One magical thing about me is my creative energy. I love sewing something from scraps or creating something new out of old.
one magical thing about me is that i can read people’s energy. the downside is that i can’t help it and there are a lot of people with negative energy and my awareness makes me feel like i am with it and in it. the total upside is that i know an authentic soul upon sight. this is a good good thing.
I would say that the one magical thing about me is that I am really good at relating to people and listening. I somehow always end up being the person that people confide in evenif I have only just met them. It can be rather awkward like when somebody I was listening to came to the conclusion they wanted to break up with their other half, or magical like when one of my now-friends told me she was 5 weeks pregnant when we had know each other 3 days. And she hadn’t told anyone else.
One magical thing about me is that my friends can all trust me with their “issues.” I lend shoulders when support is needed, and I’ve always been that way. Sometimes, it leads to more stress in my own life as my ears receive heavy burdens, but I still consider it to be an honor to be trusted as I am. :)
Something magical about me is…..I’m graduating nursing school with a passion for neonatal intensive care. I’ve found my niche caring for the tiniest, newest, and sometimes sickest little ones, and knowing that I am helping them heal in order to live the entire life ahead of them is extremely fulfilling.
my magic is that people feel safe and secure around me
The cups are beautiful! One magical thing about me is my ability to make my daughter break into the most wonderful peals of laughter! :)

Those cups are so lovely, aren’t they? I think my magic lies in truly understanding all sides … I see the black, the white, and all the shades in between. This makes me a good mediator and also means that I rarely bare grudges.
One magical thing about me is I’m a good listener, and people feel able to talk to me :) xx
Love those cups and have thought about ordering just the “m” one! One magical thing about me is my belief that it’s never too late to try something new and be who you might have been (George Eliot).
Apparently my magic lies in a different plane than most others…even though I feel like I am drowning in Lake Woe-is-me, I magically have not drowned yet. :)
Squam by the Sea–I’m so excited for you to have all that wonderfulness in your year. One magical thing…I see the magic in the people around me. Your magical thing…seeing light in darkness.
M is also for Michelle and for Mae. I am rather fond of ‘M.’
My magic is when I knit. I knit 13,640 yards last year (7.75 miles). So, clearly there is magic involved because I think I don’t have enough time to knit. But, magically it happens. And I love it!
My amazing magic ability lies in making pot noodles…. seriously…. nobody can boil a kettle, stir and wait 2 minutes like i can :D
T x
so beautiful! something magical about myself is my ability to connect with other people.
One magical thing about me is my ability to inspire my students to share and create more, to dig deeper and create honest pieces of writing. Thanks so much for offering this giveaway!!
my magic, is that i inspire people to believe in themselves-to believe in their dreams, and to make the leap. my magic, is validating the magic of others.
Love this question…one magical thing about me is that I keep getting up when things get me down…I’ve been through some rough times but, despite it all, I learned my strenth…Magic!!!
This is stolen straight from my About Me, actually: I’m the kind of girl who is quick to blush but also quick to supply a witty response, and the kind of person always happy to give away her last stick of gum. I’d say that’s pretty special, don’t you think?
Thanks Susannah!
xo,
Margaret
I love this little magical cup!
One magical thing about me is my ability to put bad situations in perspective and remember that most things *aren’t* a big deal. I have honed the ability to keep the little annoyances of life in check. :)
My magical thing is my open heart which is growing more and more.
It may be magic but it has been a part of me as long as I can remember. What is it? I make up stories. My sister is my biggest fan and is always encouraging me to publish them.
One magical thing about me is this: I always seem to know what questions to ask when a friend is going through a hard time.
That cup is adorable!
I’m only 4′-11″ and although I hardly notice my small stature, people who know me find it magical – like I magically shrink all the time on them. I also have a pretty ridiculous laugh and I think that has a magical quality for getting others to laugh with me.
I think this weekend I will start tiding my place too, for some reason all fall I have been in a purging mood and it feels really good.
The cup is so cute! One thing magical about me is that I’m a natural dream interpreter. Amongst my friends, I’m the go to person when there’s a confusing dream to be deciphered. :)
One magical thing about me is my capacity to love the smallest, most vulnerable souls. I love my bunnies, rats, and other creatures who need my voice so deeply and unfailingly. This is the magic I hold most dear.
One magical thing about me is how I dream…I can see, smell, touch, taste and hear in my DREAMS. So grateful…
One magical thing about me is I am sincere
One magical thing about me is that I continue to be challenged in my yoga and spiritual practice and think it is even better than a magic spell towards bliss.
I made two nine pound babies!!!!! Now that is magic!
When I sing, my dog sings along with me.
One more! I create magical toffee that melts in your mouth,
One of my magical abilities is connecting. I love connecting like minded people, romantic interests or even people to a cause!
My magical talent – the ability to help people see new, exciting, possibilities when they are stuck !
The magical thing about me is that have this ability to attract people who are loving, honest, and good. I am blessed to be surrounded by those who make my heart sing and in return, their hearts sing right along with mine. Who could ask for more?
One magical thing about me is that I am a born nurturer. I mean children gravitate to me for everything. They literally hang on me!!! There are days when I wish the magic would dispense for a while…I’m not as young as I used to be! Love the cups. Thanks for the giveaway.
Elizabeth IS such a lovely person…One magical thing about me is that I can get “in tune” with those around me. Especially children…this can be a blessing if I’m working to help them. ;)
I’m loving your work and am so looking forward to meeting you when you come to NC! My special magic is my ability to bring people together. For some reason I just seem to be the connector: people to the right work, people to the right people. So far, two couples I’ve introduced have gotten married! Its not a conscious effort – it just happens.
What a GREAT question. My magical talent is that I keep moving forward — even if I may *appear* to be doing absolutely nothing. Squam NC sounds amazing!
Christine.. I love that!
what’s magical lately is that I’ve just been told in a reading that my aura is really multicolored sparkles—-magical and way, way cool. I’ll take it.
I adore the cups! My magic is that I’m a cat with nine lives. Or was. I have six more left.
I’ve got the itch to spring clean!! And started to take down decorations today…
What is magical about me is the ability to become so excited to the point of obsession about pretty much anything that strikes my fancy.
