Doorways to somewhere

This week I’m editing our Polaroid book; next week it’s back to my own manuscript. There are a heck of a lot of words flowing out of my fingertips these days; if i’m lucky some of them will be good. My blogging is going to be light for the next two months as i birth these book babies, but i’ll still be popping by for a tiny hello. I miss my blog when i’m away from it for too long. I miss you guys!

I’m currently being sustained by my iPhone, of all things — the Instagram app has been a revelation and I’m loving sharing snippets of my day there. And a little project has grown out of my sharings — Bath doors. Every time i go into town i shoot a door that catches my eye and share it on Instagram and Twitter. Nothing too serious, nothing too taxing, but a welcome visual break from all these words…

So tell me, are you enjoying 2011 so far? x

Susannah, just found your blog recently…love your photos!
I also signed up to be notified when you start the next Unraveling
workshop, what a great idea. I also use Instgram…my new favorite
app in the whole world, these shots are great, Bath is a very
photogenic place. It was the highlight of my trip to England last
year. Look forward to reading more of your stuff. Thanks!

I love photos of doors, they always feel like they’re full
of so much possibility. Also, that instagram app is awesome! I’m
thinking of getting an IPhone and one of the reason is for the cool
    photo apps. :)

Kathryn, Don’t mean to jump in and reply on Sus’s page, but
just wanted to let you know that you don’t need an iPhone to use
Instagram. You can download it to your Mac or PC and use it on your
    existing photos.

oops, I can’t figure out how to delete my reply above. So
sorry Sus! I was thinking of the wrong app. Instagram is an iPhone
app. Camerabag is the one that you can download on your Mac or PC.
Sorry about that. Shutting up now *tail between legs*

Lovely photos Susannah! Can’t wait for your book, and i
need to say that your worksheet that was in your previous or one
after blog post was amazingly helpful.

Somebody did a wonderful poster of the doors of
Christchurch (Christchurch, New Zealand, that is). Sadly, many of
them are behind safety fencing at the moment because of earthquake
damage to the buildings. I love the first of these photos
especially – is that Bath abbey? We had about half a day in Bath,
did a very whirlwind tour, mostly of the Roman Baths.

I LOVE door photos and have quite a collection of my own.
And of gates.. there is something about openings and where they
might lead. Good luck with your writing. A very exciting time for
you. Look forward to your blogging when you have time :)

Sending you good vibes for finishing your books –
especially because I can hardly wait to read them! Reading your
posts reminds me of when I was finishing my thesis – nearly
everything fell away during those last few months as I raced to
meet deadlines. Loving the door photos – I was obsessed with them
when I lived in Siena, Italy years ago and took hundreds of photos.
Now and again my obsession pops up again – like when I’m in NYC or
Philadelphia. Those cities have great doors.
