From blossoms comes
this brown paper bag of peaches
we bought from the boy
at the bend in the road where we turned toward
signs painted Peaches.
From laden boughs, from hands,
from sweet fellowship in the bins,
comes nectar at the roadside, succulent
peaches we devour, dusty skin and all,
comes the familiar dust of summer, dust we eat.
O, to take what we love inside,
to carry within us an orchard, to eat
not only the skin, but the shade,
not only the sugar, but the days, to hold
the fruit in our hands, adore it, then bite into
the round jubilance of peach.
There are days we live
as if death were nowhere
in the backgroud; from joy
to joy to joy, from wing to wing,
from blossom to blossom to
impossible blossom, to sweet impossible blossom.

This may sound very strange coming from largely a lurker (couple of comments here and there) but I dreamt about you, your sister and your mother a few nights ago. We were camping, watching stars that raced across the sky forming outlines of animal shapes and joining in with happy revellers who were having a party in the dark. I had a lovely time with lovely people.
Beautiful post and beautiful portraits too :)
Your mom seems like such a lovely person.
Just found your blog, and I am mowed down by your poetry section—so many beautiful poems–the videos of you reading are very powerful! I’ve read this poem by Li-Young Lee before, and that third stanza just about knocks me out every time! Thank you!
What a gorgeous blog! My friend just sent it along and you’ve gained a new reader!

Great poem and beautiful mum.
